Our 2020 Project:
Homelessness in Northwest Arkansas
Students at the University of Arkansas School of Journalism and Strategic Media examined homelessness in our region as part of a national reporting project: Nowhere To Go, led by the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism at the University of Maryland. Participating schools are working with National Public Radio to examine the different ways communities are addressing homelessness — and documenting what’s working, what’s not and why. Programs participating in the Howard Center Consortium include Graduate Program in Journalism, Stanford University and Big Local News; Boston University Department of Journalism; University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication; and the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communication.

Our 2019 Project:
How Student Loans Impact Arkansans
Students at the University of Arkansas School of Journalism and Strategic Media looked into the way student loan debt impacts fellow students – and the state of Arkansas. The 2019 cohort of the Digital Media Lab analyzed student debt through the lenses of the differences in private and public schools, grants and the different methods students use to fund post-secondary education.
Their reporting also looked at the national trends of student loans, which show a growing reliance on student loans as student costs climb – even as loans become harder to obtain.
